Nixon wins Working Families Party support against Cuomo

The vote was taken by more than 175 members of the party's state committee.

"We have to stop putting people of color in jail for something that white people do with impunity", Nixon says in the video.

Unions have been major contributors to grassroots groups like Citizen Action, Make the Road Action and New York Communities for Change, which all endorsed Nixon last week.

Many progressives and liberals are unsatisfied with Cuomo's reign as governor, who's seen as a more moderate Democrat, which is what spurred Nixon to run for the nomination.

"If by some fluke I do not, then I will confer with the Working Families Party, and we will sit down together, and we will hash it out".

The Working Families Party said it was pleased to show independence from Cuomo, the Democratic Party's flagbearer.
