Rescuers searching for missing Indian family find woman's body

It could take several weeks to determine whether it's the body of one of three children still missing after the crash because lengthy DNA analysis may be needed for identification, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office says.

Reports surfaced after the crash that Child Protective Services attempted to visit the family numerous times.

Investigators began to examine the possibility that the disappearance might be linked to a report that the highway patrol received on April 6 of a vehicle plummeting into the Eel River from US 101, a north-south highway that runs through Washington State, Oregon and California.

Earlier the authorities announced they were able to locate numerous items that appeared to have come from the vehicle belonging to the missing family.

After one of the children came by asking for food on March 23, the neighbor contacted authorities, who sent an investigator by the home late that afternoon. The discovery comes after investigators found personal items belonging to the Thottapilly family in the Eel River.

The married moms had also faced child abuse accusations in Minnesota and OR, where they previously lived with their six children, ages 12 to 19, records show.
