BVB manager Stoger fears 'long time' Batshuayi injury stint

The Belgian had started life for Borussia Dortmund emphatically after departing from Chelsea till the end of the season in January.

The Chelsea striker, who is on loan at Dortmund, was stretchered off in the clash between the two Ruhr giants and it was initially feared he may have broken either his leg or his ankle. A commitment for the Belgium national team at the World Cup in Russian Federation is still in the range of possibility.

It is sad news to bring on the loan watch front as Michy Batshuayi confirmed that his season is "probably over" in a tweet on Monday.

"I won't be able to pay BVB back for their confidence - thank you all the wonderful amount of love I received since yesterday".

On Monday it was back online and thanking supporters, saying: "Only by speaking up can we affect change". Monday's reversal was met with an outpouring of support.

The 24-year-old scored nine goals in 14 games, including seven in the Bundesliga, after arriving at Dortmund as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Dortmund's statement confirming Batshuayi's injury said it was "in the realm of possibility" he could recover in time for the World Cup. Wishing my teammates the best for the final days.

However, the club added he could "possibly" still play for Belgium at the World Cup in Russian Federation which runs from June 14 to July 15.

Batshuayi's injury is a blow to Dortmund's Champions League qualification hopes, with Peter Stoger's men fourth in the table, four points clear of RB Leipzig with six matches remaining.
