Region under flash flood watch; colder temps on the way

A flood watch was issued for much of Central North Carolina as severe storms slowed their movement, dumping more rain across the region.

The watch is for counties along the east end of Lake Ontario: Wayne, northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis and Ontario. In Virginia, this includes the New River Valley counties of Pulaski, Montgomery and Giles Counties, as well as Craig, Roanoke, Franklin, Henry, and Patrick Counties through this evening.

"Small streams and creeks, low-lying and poor drainage areas, and urban areas may see flooding problems develop as soon as Monday morning." the watch said. That means there is the potential for flash flooding which can be life-threatening.

Kauai is under a flash flood warning until 8:15 p.m. today.

Gronk won't be at start of Patriots' offseason program, still weighing future
But Brady, who is traveling with his family, now isn't believed to be thinking about not playing next season; Gronk definitely is. The Patriots star has a $250,000 workout bonus that's based on attending a "percentage" of the voluntary workouts.

Meteorologists say the storms will likely move out of the region completely by this afternoon, but not before raising the risk of flooding in areas of poor drainage.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris. Rapidly rising flood waters may inundate roadways quickly.

Thunderstorms are expected to arrive just before or during the Monday morning commute according to the NWS.
