Football field-sized asteroid zooms dangerously close to Earth

An asteroid whose size is about a football field fly close to the Earth on Sunday and it is said to be one of the closet encounters for the planets. While it doesn't sound like a short distance, 2018 GE3 was twice as close to the Earth as the moon is, which has an average orbit of 238,900 miles away.

According to NASA, it posted on its website that it is nothing as compared to asteroids which are present in between the Mars and Jupiter, whose length can spread across 580 miles.

NASA scientists said they first noticed the massive asteroid at an observatory in Arizona less than 24 hours before the flyby. "Hours later, amateur astronomer Michael Jäger of Weißenkirchen Austria video-recorded the space rock gliding through the southern constellation Serpens", Spaceweather.com reported.

With an estimated diameter of 157 to 361 feet (48 to 110 meters), asteroid 2018 GE3 has about three to six times the diameter of the space rock that penetrated the skies over Chelyabinsk, Russia, in February 2013, causing more than 1,000 people to seek treatment for injuries, mostly from flying glass.

Unnao rape: CBI to seek Narco test of BJP MLA
The first FIR pertains to the alleged rape of the girl in which Sengar and Shashi Singh have been named as accused. After a massive public outrage over the inaction of UP Police , the case was handed over to the CBI on April 12.

The safety of our planet, however, was jeopardized over the weekend when scientists nearly failed to detect a football field-sized asteroid heading towards Earth.

The giant asteroid, estimated to be between 47 and 100 metres in width, was flew by Earth at a speed of 106,000 kilometres per hour. The asteroid - named 2018 GE3, came closest to Earth at around 12:11 pm IST (2:41 am EDT) on Sunday, as reported by space.com. This sized Astroid may make some regional damage according to its speed, angle and impact location. Anyway, it is a close call but it had made any minor contact with the Earth's surface than it will be more painful to read this story that explains the deaths and destructions.

"Nevertheless, it is a significant asteroid, illustrating how even large space rocks can still take us by surprise".
