National Weather Service Confirms Tornadoes, Recovery Underway

Police departments in Richmond and the surrounding counties of Henrico, Hanover and Chesterfield said that there were relatively few problems from the storm and that they were not aware of any storm-related injuries.

But the National Weather Service advised people to use caution.

Shortly after 5 p.m Sunday, a tornado touched down near Greensboro, N.C., according to a statement from the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado hit Decatur County on Sunday. They are now working on a tornado survey for the EF-1 tornado that touched down near Diana Friday night, they have confirmed it as an EF-1 tornado, but have yet to release the details of their finding.

One of the EF2 tornadoes was in Crawford County, near Mountainburg, where Gov. Asa Hutchinson toured Sunday to survey the damage.

Weekend storms generated five tornados sprinkle across Central Mississippi with one to the North and one near the Coast.

By early Monday afternoon, more than 4,000 electric customers were still without service.

As storms exited Arkansas, colder weather entered the state. Most of the damage occurred at a strip mall shopping center.

By the end ot the severe weather event, more that three dozen reports were submitted that spanned from tornadoes, wind damage, flooding, to hail.

A North Carolina school system is canceling classes for a second day because of damages caused by a tornado.

Straight-line wind damage was found in Mountain Home, located in Baxter County.

In Amherst County, it crossed Virginia 130 into Elon and its wind speed strengthened to an estimated 130 miles per hour.

The estimated 85 to 95 miles per hour wind speeds snapped large tree limbs as the tornado crossed Highways 217 and 215 before dissipating south of Case road.

A team from the weather service office in Wakefield also examined reports of tree damage from the Blackstone area of Nottoway County following a string of tornado warnings there Sunday evening.
