A sensational confession: Conchita Wurst said that she was HIV-positive

A sensational confession: Conchita Wurst said that she was HIV-positive

"I will not give anyone the right to frighten me and influence my life in the future", she wrote, adding that she had initially chose to keep her status private in order to spare her family - who she revealed had supported her "unconditionally".

The 2014 Eurovision victor went on to say that the virus was no longer detectable in her blood and was not at risk of being passed on to anyone else.

Drag queen Conchita Wurst, the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest victor, came out as HIV-positive on Instagram and said an ex-boyfriend forced her to do so.

"I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, threatening the health of so many others, which couldn't be further from the truth".

She also explained that she had been receiving treatment for HIV and her levels were now undetectable.

Conchita wrote that she had no intention of talking openly about her HIV status because she didn't want stigma around being HIV positive to affect her family, and because she thinks it's "irrelevant to the public".

Netflix Series "Maniac" Starring Emma Stone & Jonah Hill Promo Released
Netflix doesn't give us a debut date just yet, but I imagine Maniac will be arriving sometime late this summer or this fall. First announced two years ago, the comedy television series is a remake of a Norwegian series of the same name.

Conchita, a gay rights activist since the beginning of her career, showed the world she was an active and influential person, and she kept the same attitude when addressing the recent events.

Ultimately, Conchita wrote that she chose to open up about having HIV publicly before she was outed to retain ownership of her own narrative, but also to break down the stigma surrounding HIV. She has been for many years, without interruption, below the detection limit point.

As scary as the term HIV can be, there are some facts that most people are not aware of when it comes to understanding the causes, consequences, and transmission of the disease.

Conchita, the alter ego of Thomas Neuwirth, wrote that "coming out is better than being outed by a third party".

Austrian singer Conchita Wurst has revealed that she is living with HIV, after an ex-partner threatened to make the information public. "I hope to show courage, and to take another step towards the destigmatisation of people who have become infected with HIV due to their actions or through no fault of their own". It's unfortunate that she had to share her message under apparent threat of blackmail, but now that she's shared it, Conchita is making a powerful statement.

She also thanked them for their support and declared she felt liberated and more motivated than ever.
