Idris Elba to Star in New Netflix Comedy Series 'Turn Up Charlie'

Netflix has ordered an eight-episode first season of the half-hour series.

Idris Elba will star as the titular Charlie, a struggling DJ and dedicated bachelor, who is in need of a career resurgence when a new job opportunity opens up.

Idris Elba is a DJ (he is what he plays), both in real-life and coming soon on Netflix for an upcoming comedy series called Turn Up Charlie. So he wasn't actually amusing per se in the role, but the veteran actor also stars and created the United Kingdom comedy In The Long Run. The show was co-created by Elba along with known TV producer Gary Reich. Elba is now working on a second comedy show called In The Long Run, a semi-autobiographical series based on his family and childhood.

A Pentagon spokesman said there was no U.S. military activity in that area at this time. Israel did not confirm or deny it.

My Mad Fat Diary's Laura Neal and relative newcomers Femi Oyeniran and Victoria Asare-Archer are writing the script with Georgia Lester, who is also supervising producer. Martin Joyce and Ana Garanito will co-exec produce. Shapeero and Matt Lipsey will direct. Gill Isles is set as a producer on the comedy, which is a co-production between Reich's London-based Brown Eyed Boy Productions and Elba's Green Door Pictures. From Heimdall in Thor, to Stringer Bell in The Wire, and Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Elba has been gracing fans with immaculate performances for years.

Elba is also an accomplished DJ, having performed at festivals like Snowbombing, Glastonbury, Creamfields, and Elrow London.
