Alabama announces home-and-home series with Notre Dame

Alabama and Notre Dame, two of the most storied programs in college football, will play a home-and-home series in 2028 and 2029.

Barring a future bowl matchup, the game on September 2, 2018 at Notre Dame will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Crimson Tide's 42-14 victory over the Irish in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game.

Notre Dame leads the all-time series 5-2. The three other games took place in bowl games with the national title on the line. Iconic football programs Alabama and Notre Dame will meet in a pair of season openers, starting in a decade.

Notre Dame football will finally receive its opportunity for revenge against Alabama. The affair will play out in Tuscaloosa the year after, with that contest set for September 1, 2029. The Crimson Tide have the most national championships in the poll era with 12 since 1936, followed by the Irish in second with eight.

The Irish won 21-18 in 1976 and 37-6 in 1987. Tidesports was the first to report Alabama was in talks for the games in March.

The Fighting Irish and Crimson Tide agreed to a home-and-home series and released the dates of the two games on Thursday afternoon.

Notre Dame will also play Vanderbilt in 2018, Arkansas in 2020 and Texas A&M in 2024 and 2025.
