Premier League 2017/18: Three things Manchester United did right against Bournemouth AFC

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had suggested that a number of big players would be left out of his squad to face Bournemouth on Wednesday - and he has duly backed that up.

Paul Pogba was one of just four players who kept their places and the Frenchman also impressed after playing a part in both goals.

Manchester United now sits second in the Premier League table, but they are 16 points behind their rivals Manchester City, who have already won the Premier League title.

With one eye on a FA Cup semi-final tie with Tottenham Hotspur, Jose Mourinho rung in the changes as the likes of Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Nemanja Matic all warmed the bench.

When he was asked to comment about Scholes' scathing critique of Pogba, Mourinho responded: "I don't agree".

"I don't agree with that, but I agree that it wasn't a good performance at all against West Brom with that I agree." . "Obviously, the performance against City was special, coming with two goals", he said.

"But this performance was a very similar level".

"Top performance. Top performance".

United's return to winning ways was not enough to ease Mourinho's frustrations over Sunday's woeful loss to West Brom.

Alonso was immediately ruled out of the Premier League game at Burnley on Thursday the FA Cup semifinal match against Southampton on Sunday and the league trip to Swansea on April 28.

"You're not going to say that City won the title because Manchester United gave them the title - it's not fair for them".

Pogba was widely criticised for his lacklustre display against Albion - the latest in a long line of disappointing efforts from the former Juventus star since his move to United two seasons ago.

"I don't know, I don't really speak to anyone at the club".

Second-choice stopper Michel Vorm has played in goal throughout their cup run, as he did last season, but no.1 Hugo Lloris was brought back for their semi-final defeat to Chelsea a year ago and Pochettino may opt to do the same this weekend.

"It will mean more to Pochettino, being his first experience to win something, and he has far more variety and better technical players, who he's improved and advanced as a team".
