Several former presidents and first ladies, as well as other dignitaries, are expected to attend.

First lady Melania Trump will be at the service, but the White House said this week that President Donald Trump wouldn't attend "to avoid disruptions due to added security, and out of respect for the Bush Family and friends attending the service".

Lucy Orlando was one of the more than 100 people in line well before bus service began from a separate location to the church.

The funeral capped a weeklong period of mourning in Houston. Bush and her impact on the community in a celebration of life event outside city hall.

Barbara Bush was known as the "Enforcer" in her family, the glue who kept the high-powered clan together.

Barbara Bush served as first lady from 1989 to 1993. A few days before her passing, a statement was released from a Bush family spokesman, Jim McGrath, saying that Mrs. "She was a woman of proud patriotism and profound faith".

They came in suits and dresses, nurses' scrubs and football jerseys, jeans and school uniforms.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush joked how his mother called her style of mothering him and his siblings "a benevolent dictatorship - but honestly it wasn't always benevolent". About halfway through the viewing, roughly 3,000 visitors flowed past throughout the afternoon, pausing to bow their heads or make the sign of the cross.

Barbara Bush was remembered at her funeral as a loving wife, mother and friend with a devilish sense of humor and who represented the best of the World War II generation. "It does make me sad, because she's such an incredible example, and I don't know how many more people there are to be that kind of example". Many were seen embracing in the church before the service. Members of the public were barred from approaching the church on foot or in personal vehicles. Before they are able to, everyone has to go to Second Baptist Church at 6400 Woodway Drive to park and go through security. Bush's body will be taken to the George Bush Presidential Library at Texas A&M in College Station.

The gated plot is in an area surrounded by trees and near a creek where the couple's three-year-old daughter, Robin, is buried.

Before arriving at the library grounds, the motorcade in College Station will turn left on George Bush Drive and then right on Barbara Bush Drive.
