N.Korea Suspends Nuclear and Long-Range Missile Tests

The country "no longer needs" to conduct nuclear or intercontinental ballistic missile tests because it has completed its weaponizing programs, Kim told the Korean Workers' Party's Central Committee, which declared it a "great victory".

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Thursday that his rival, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, isn't asking for the withdrawal of USA troops from the Korean Peninsula as a precondition for abandoning his nuclear weapons.

On April 20, a direct phone connection between North Korea's Kim Jong-un and South Korean president Moon Jae-in was successfully tested, Reuters reports.

Moon also said in a statement, "We appreciate (North Korea's decision) as meaningful progress toward denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, which the world wishes for".

"North Korea has agreed to suspend all Nuclear Tests and close up a major test site".

Mr Trump welcomed the announcement and said he was looking forward to the summit.

Moon has said that Kim is willing to discuss denuclearisation and that he will not insist on American troops being withdrawn from South Korea as part of any deal.

"North Korea says it has suspended nuclear and long-range missile tests, and plans to close its nuclear test site". "I solemnly declare that we have accomplished credible weaponization of nuclear forces", Kim was quoted as saying at a party meeting on Friday.

In accordance with WTO rules, safeguard measures should trigger payments from the United States to major exporters. According to estimates, India exports steel and aluminium goods worth about $1.6 billion a year to America.

Preparations for the April 27 summit between leaders of North and South Korea are underway, and include making it easier for the two men to call each other up.

A separate meeting between Kim and Trump is anticipated in May or June.

"The North will now engage in negotiations with the U.S. to obtain the normalisation of ties, guarantee against attempts to undermine its regime, and the lifting of sanctions which are essential for developing economy and improving people's livelihoods", Yang said.

North Korea's decision to suspend nuclear testing could signal Pyongyang is satisfied with the state of its nuclear capabilities, which could mean the North is much more capable than previously acknowledged, some Korea watchers are noting.

The committee unanimously adopted a resolution that called for concentrating national efforts to achieve a strong socialist economy and "groundbreaking improvements in people's lives". Since November, however, there has been no missile testing.

Trump revealed Tuesday that the US and North Korea had been holding direct talks at "extremely high levels" in preparation for their summit. "But they're not going to give up their nuclear weapons without reciprocal steps from the USA and others".

In February, athletes from the North and South walked under a unified Korean flag at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Pyeongchang. He attended the latest high-level inter-Korean talks as the chief delegate.
