Alvarez could potentially have been banned from the sport for a year however the Nevada State Athletic Commission decide to cut the ban in half due to the cooperation of the fighter. "This experience is done and now we must refocus our attention because the uncertainty is over, because there is a fight on May 5 and a suspension was given".

Mexican Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Japan's Kenichi Ogawa have been suspended for six months following hearings with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) after both boxers failed recent doping tests.

Golden Boy Promotions said Alvarez "looks forward to returning to the ring in September for Mexican Independence Day weekend".

Caroline Bateman, a Nevada deputy attorney general, suggested a punishment of six months from the day of Alvarez's first positive test on February 17.

In addition to the ban, Canelo will have to pass drug tests prior to his next fight in Nevada.

Durant, however, walked off under his own power and told reporters that he was fine after the game. The two-time MVP will be evaluated Friday but "isn't in the final stages of his rehabilitation".

After Bateman was briefly questioned by commission members, Alvarez attorney Ricardo Cestero, who attended the hearing via telephone, told the commission, "We are in agreement with the proposed adjudication agreement".

"It is going to be a great fight - it is going to be a battle of wills", said Hall of Fame promoter Don King, who promotes Martirosyan. "And I hope to see him fighting in Nevada soon".

The punishment is the lightest given for his kind of offence, and following an interim ban in place from April 3, his match-up against Gennady Golovkin for May 5 in Las Vegas has been cancelled.

Golovkin will defend his WBC, WBA and IBF titles against Vanes "The Nightmare" Martirosyan at the StubHub Center.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. believes Canelo Alvarez is using performance enhancing drugs rather than a case of meat contamination. But with Alvarez suspended because of the positive test and so little time between the hearing and the fight promoters made a decision to cancel the bout.
