Twitter mourns Superman actress Margot Kidder Video

Kidder rose to stardom playing intrepid reporter Lois Lane in the Superman films of the 1970s and 80s, alongside Christopher Reeve.

Teri Hatcher, who played Lois Lane on the 1990s television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, said that it was "a privilege" to have shared a role with "wonderful actress" Kidder.

Born Margaret Ruth Kidder on October 17, 1948 in Canada´s Northwest Territories, she grew up in a small town without a movie theater. The protest outside the White House was broken up by police, who arrested several activists, including Kidder and her friend and fellow actress Tantoo Cardinal.

She continued to act in her later years but her popularity waned after she suffered a highly publicized mental breakdown in 1996.

While Margot Kidder died on Sunday night, the original Superman, Christopher Reeves breathed his last in 2004, and with the death of duo, it's indeed an end of an era.

Entertainment Weekly wrote that she also starred in the movies "The Amityville Horror", and "Black Christmas", while winning a Daytime Emmy in 2015 for her work on R.L. Stine's "The Haunting Hour". Margot was married three times, but sources claim she had been single since the late 1980s. "Who's got you?!" when she first encountered the costumed hero as she and a helicopter plunged from the top of a Metropolis building.

She is survived by her daughter.

RIP, Margot Kidder." Mark Hamill also commemorated the actress by writing, "On-screen she was magic. "Off-screen she was one of the kindest, sweetest, most caring woman [sic] I've ever known", he tweeted.

He touchingly added: "I totally would have dragged you up the hill".

Kidder's full name was Margaret Ruth "Margot" Kidder and she was born in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories province of Canada, but became a U.S. citizen in 2005.
