Stress survey finds many 'overwhelmed or unable to cope'

Ian Cartwright spoke to the NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to create the five-minute film, which was released online this week to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week.

Societally we might think we're "clued up" on mental health, but when surveyed by YouGov on behalf of RCPsych, a quarter of the public were unaware that addiction to opioids is more deadly than cervical cancer, and just 42% realise that it takes a psychiatrist to diagnose bipolar disorder.

Since 1949, Mental Health America and their affiliates across the country have led the observance of May is Mental Health Month by reaching millions of people through the media, local events and screenings. "Exercise can be hugely beneficial to anyone suffering from mental health problems, such as depression or anxiety, and it's also great for reducing stress levels". Classes are also available to join throughout the week and the gym also offers a separate ladies' only gym area.

Employers have an opportunity to make a real impact; by encouraging better physical health behaviours they can become the catalyst for better mental health too.

More than 1,000 validated mental health support networks have already registered on the web app, with the number increasing each day, and it has been endorsed by the Samaritans and 25 other national mental health support organisations. This Mental Health Awareness Week we are asking 'How are you, really?' We want to help as many people as we can in the legal profession who are feeling stressed or depressed or have any other issue.

John Dean, Chief Commercial Officer, Punter Southall Health and Protection says, "10 years ago nobody talked about workplace mental health, but it's a major issue for employers today".

Ander Herrera: 'Eden Hazard is best player in Premier League'
After the World Cup we will be... "Everyone knows the respect I have for Zidane as a player, but also as a manager". Herrera's United side will come up against Hazard's Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup on Saturday.

"Our research highlights the stigma that prevails around mental health in the workplace", noted Clemence.

So how do we end the stigma and allow people to heal and fight the mental health crises in America?

"Stress is nature's way of telling us that a key emotional need, perhaps to feel physically or financially secure, to have control over our lives, or to feel valued and respected, or to have privacy and time out, is not being met in our lives". It's a serious problem, as exercising within the guidelines helps to tackle over 20 chronic conditions including coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer.

Many of us don't know how to respond to people when they bring up their mental illness.

"Our new Mental Health Advantage cover will now enable business leaders to provide better support for their colleagues - offering businesses ease of access and the confidence that their people can access the right support and care when they need it". Now the College's Mental Health Forum is calling on all higher education institutions to implement this new standard as soon as possible, and for this training to continue for all nurses, not just those in mental health, once they start working.
