Wildlife officers kill bear suspected of attacking girl

Wildlife officers placed three traps in the area overnight, actively monitoring them and continuing the investigation, when they saw the bear walking up to a residence approximately a half-mile away from the location of the attack. According to local NBC-affiliate KKCO, the victim's father, Duane Cyr, said that Kimberly Cyr, the girl attacked by the bear, will be fine.

The woman told Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officers that her daughter went outside at about 2.30am on Sunday, Mother's Day in the USA, after hearing noises she thought might be coming from her dog.

A bear that was involved in an attack on a girl in Colorado was tracked down and killed, according to reports.

The mother screamed at the bear, which dropped the girl.

The girl is now in fair condition at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Authorities say the mother's move may have saved her daughter's life.

Wildlife agents were hunting for the bear with tracking hounds and had set traps to catch it.

After dealing with the bear, they took the animal's carcass to the Wildlife Health Laboratory in Fort Collins for a necropsy, the paper reported. If it is captured, CPW said the bear will be put down.

While bear attacks on humans are rare, Porras said there is growing concern.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife, in a statement on its website, told residents to secure their trash, keep pet food inside, and tell officials about any bear sightings in residential areas.

State officials have seen an increase in bear conflicts over the years as more people continue moving to Colorado and push farther into bear country.
