WOW air to introduce direct flights between Iceland and India in December

For price conscious Indian travellers, worldwide air travel is becoming more affordable.

The 's founder and CEO, Skuli Mogensen, said launch one-way fares for flights from Delhi to Reykjavik and beyond to United States destinations like New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles will be Rs 13,499 (all-inclusive) for basic economy. The 3X-weekly Airbus A330neo route will launch in December, increasing to 5X-weekly from January 2019.

In a promotion, Wow is selling a total of 4,200 one-way seats to India for just $199.

"If you draw the shortest flight path from India to the East coast of America, it goes right above Iceland", Skuli Mogensen, founder and chief executive officer of Wow Air said in an interview on Tuesday.

It now serves 39 destinations including London, Paris, New York, Toronto, Baltimore, San Francisco and Chicago.

The carrier already operates a route to Newark Liberty International Airport as well as Chicago, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Boston, Montreal, Washington D.C. and Californian destinations Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami from London. But though you may be able to book tickets now, you won't be able to travel until January 15, 2018 - which is the first available flight out from New Delhi to NY with a sub ₹14,000 price tag. There are also fees for selecting a seat assignment, starting at $7.

Mogensen is famous for saying that a day will come when airlines will pay their passengers to fly. As of spring 2018, the airline services 39 destinations across Europe and North America including Dublin, London, Paris, Berlin, and Copenhagen.

WOW air was ranked as the 7th best low-priced airline in Europe at the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Skytrax World Airline Awards and was the youngest airline in the top ten.
