HBO to make documentary of 'Serial' podcast's Adnan Syed

The series will air on Sky Atlantic in Europe and HBO in the United States.

Serial Season 1 told Adnan Syed's story and the curious, potentially unfair trial he received.

HBO and Sky announced Wednesday that a four-hour docuseries called "The Case Against Adnan Syed" is on the way.

Directed by Academy Award nominee Amy Berg (Deliver Us from Evil, West of Memphis), the crime documentary promises new findings and "groundbreaking revelations" that challenges the state's case. His original conviction and his subsequent efforts to get a new trial have galvanized people throughout the world since they were featured in 2014 in the "Serial" podcast, which was produced by former Baltimore Sun reporter Sarah Koenig.

The series has been in production since 2015, but there is no date now set for its release.

Ebola Vaccine Land DR. Congo
The city is a major transportation hub with routes to the capital Kinshasa , the BBC reports. Ebola is spread by contact with the bodily fluids of people exhibiting symptoms.

Per its official synopsis, the series "will offer a cinematic look at the life and 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee and conviction of Adnan Syed, from the genesis of their high school relationship, to the original police investigation and trial, through to the current day, when Syed faces a new trial after serving 18 years in jail". According to a press release, producer Amy Berg has been given unprecedented access to those closest to the case - including Syed's family and friends, defence team, and members of the Baltimore City law enforcement. He remains in prison while awaiting a ruling by the Maryland Court of Appeals.

As is standard with these things, prosecutors are now expected to challenge the decision. Rabia has been actively campaigning for Adnan's exoneration.

It was her who first brought it to the attention of Serial podcast creators.

Unfortunately, we might be waiting a while for the follow-up - no release date has been announced. But we'll be keeping an eye out.
