Laurie and Jay Becerra had left Smokey and Remus home alone but their CCTV captured the drama at their home in Mesa, Arizona.

"Remus may be a insane pup but he's got a heart of gold!"

Smokey, who can't swim very well, was stuck in the pool and was struggling to get out. "My best friend cried when we sent her the video".

As time goes by, Smokey - whom his owners have now admitted is not a good swimmer - gets more and more anxious seeing he can't exit the pool himself. "She says he's a certified lifeguard now".

"Jay saw Smokey all wet and wanted to see what happened".

The footage showed Smokey having difficulty getting back out of the pool, with Remus on the side looking as if he was trying to direct him how to get up.

Becerra wrote on Facebook that Smokey could swim, just not very well, and that Remus "may be a insane pup but he's got a heart of gold!"

Then suddenly, a splash, and Remus is in the water too.

After a few unsuccessful attempts, Remus jumps in after Smokey and uses his body to push Smokey out of the water.

She added the dogs often play near the pool without incident. You see him try multiple times to pull his friend out of the water.
