Indore India's cleanest city, Mumbai best among state capitals

It was expected that Chandigarh will get a good rank in this Swachh Survekshan as the city had done a lot to regain its spot in the top cleanest cities of India from the past couple of years.

Indore has bagged the title of the cleanest city in India, followed by Bhopal and Chandigarh, according to a government cleanliness survey. In the Swachh Survekshan-2016 rankings, Vijayawada secured 23rd rank and 19th rank in 2017 among the 500 cities surveyed. The Swachh Bharat Survey was conducted in February this year.

If you are wondering which are the "worst-performing cities", in terms of cleanliness, then you have to wait for a while.

Mumbai has been declared the cleanest state capital in the Swachh Survekshan 2018, announced on Wednesday. Other categories included the fastest moving big city, best cantonment, best as per citizens' feedback, best city in solid waste management, innovation and best practices among others. Indore was the cleanest city previous year as well but that survey was conducted only for around 430 cities. This time, BMC along with an NGO "Sanidhya" had undertaken several unique initiatives just because of which the city has stood second across the country.

Besides, Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh is India's cleanest big city with a population of over 10 lakh.
