Justify draws 7 post, is 1-2 Preakness favorite

Trainer Bob Baffert said he's wanted to let Justify develop at his own pace.

Following the KENTUCKY DERBY, all eyes are focused on the PREAKNESS STAKES at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, taking place on Saturday, May 19.

Kentucky Derby runner-up Good Magic drew the fifth post position for his rematch with Justify and was rated the second pick for the Preakness at 3-1. The D. Wayne Lukas-trained Bravazo at Post 8, meanwhile, will be right next to the race's overwhelming favorite, which isn't always the best position to be in - Lukas himself admitted after the post draw that he thought his horses were in "deep doo-doo" after he saw Justify in person on Wednesday.

The Pimlico Race Course track handicapper set the morning-line odds on Justify emerging from Saturday's race undefeated and headed to the Belmont Stakes with the Triple Crown at stake at 1-2.

Unbeaten in four career races, Justify was accompanied by Preakness contenders Lone Sailor and Quip on the flight from Louisville to Baltimore-Washington International Airport. The stallion takes his shot on Saturday at a third classic victor with Tampa Bay Derby victor Quip, who bypassed the Kentucky Derby to await the Preakness.

The most recent horse to start from Post 7 and win the Preakness was Lookin at Lucky in 2010. A furlong is one-eighth of a mile, so the Preakness is 110 yards shorter than the Kentucky Derby.
