Yeddyurappa will be sworn-in as CM tomorrow, confirms Governor

Once the Karnataka poll is in the rear view mirror and the four-year anniversary of the Modi government is duly celebrated, next year's general election campaign will soon begin in earnest.

However, in last year's Goa Assembly elections, Congress secured the highest number of seats and BJP came second, with 17 and 13 seats respectively. To be in power, both the national parties, the Congress and the BJP, with 79 and 104 seats, are now at the mercy of the regional party.

In the meanwhile, Congress and JD (S) leaders who also met Vala on Tuesday, handed over copies of the apex court's orders where coalition partners are allowed to form governments.

The bench headed by Justice A K Sikri, while seeking Yeddyurappa's response on the petition by Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) seeking to stall his swearing-in, has directed further hearing of the matter at 10.30 a.m. on Friday. "HD Kumaraswamy is our Chief Minister", he told ANI.

India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Chief Minister of the southern state of Karnataka B.S. Yeddyurappa leaves to meet the state governor to stake claim to form the government, in Bengaluru, India, May 16, 2018.

The BJP has demanded to be given the first opportunity to form a government because it is the largest party.

Australian Federal Police then showed up and escorted the man back through the gate. He was travelling to Adelaide, but the locked plane was headed for Sydney.

The ball now lies in the Governor's court. "Nobody is missing. We are confident of forming the government", he told reporters here, prior to the Congress party meeting at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office. Negotiations gathered pace once the exit polls suggested a fractured mandate, and culminated Wednesday, with the JD (S) and Congress alliance. ECI, in its notification issued on May 11, said that the polling in the constituency of Jayanagar had been adjourned "due to death of a candidate of a national party", whereas the polling in Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency is scheduled to take place on May 28.

The first anti-BJP front in 1996 with Deve Gowda as PM, the leader pointed out, was formed after the elections that followed the collapse of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's thirteen-day BJP government. According to the Constitution, the decision of the Governor is final and the validity of anything done by him as a matter of his discretion can not be questioned. "That is the message Sonia Gandhi is trying to send out, that we can do anything to keep the BJP out of power", said a senior party leader. With Congress support as and where required. "It is our unanimous decision".

Venugopal said it was the Governor's decision and it was an area of darkness how Yeddyurappa was claiming to form the government. Mocking at the "desperation of a defeated Congress" to support the JD (S) to form a coalition Government to keep the BJP out of power, BJP spokesman Shantaram said his party was open to an alliance with the JD (S) or seek its support to form the new Government.

For JD (S), the results bring the sweet taste of victory in more ways than one. We have our numbers, not not even a single member has moved out.

If a party wins absolute majority in an assembly election, the Governor won't be in a dilemma as the Constitutional authority has to call the leader of the party with absolute majority in the Assembly and ask him or her to prove the majority on the floor of the House.
