Unai Emery to Arsenal: Reason Mikel Arteta was NOT named manager revealed

Unai Emery has emerged as the front runner for the Arsenal job after several British newspapers reported that his appointment is imminent.

Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta has withdrawn his application for the Arsenal job.

The 46-year-old Spaniard had previously been manager at Sevilla, who he steered to three Europa League triumphs.

An announcement is expected later this week.

Emery, who was at one stage a 66/1 shot and behind Tim Sherwood in the betting odds to become Arsenal manager, "is not completely fluent" in English, but that will not be a problem. The paper states the former Gunners captain was deemed as a big risk given his lack of managerial experience, and though he was edging towards a three-year deal worth £4m-a-year, the club settled on Emery after taking their time and speaking to all the potential candidates.

You'd have thought that by now they would have known exactly what's going on.

A Mirror Ball and American Idol title given out during season finales
The victor of season 6 of " American Idol " was set to perform with other former Idol alums on "Late Night" later on that night. Clarksville native Maddie Poppe has a shot to win it all, and she is already the first Iowan to ever make it to the finals.

The recruitment process was led by Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat - though the final decision would be down to majority shareholder and owner Stan Kroenke.

"What's going on at Arsenal?"

Wenger, 67, who has had no say in the appointment of the new man, waved goodbye as he left the club's Hertfordshire training complex and the club looked to the future.

The next Arsenal manager will be charged with trying to restore the team to regular Champions League qualification and Premier League title contention, the Gunners having now missed out on elite continental competition in back-to-back campaigns.

Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague told Sky Sports News on Monday: "I am hearing that Unai Emery is in London to hold talks with Arsenal".
