Ban on plastic use should start from every house, says Karimnagar Collector

The theme this year for World Environment Day 2018 is "Beat Plastic Pollution".

According to Cheema, most of these plastics eventually make their way into rivers, water channels and finally, into the oceans.

"In particular, it is impacting the ocean, which is the lungs of our planet, providing most of the oxygen we breathe, major source of food and medicines and a critical part of the biosphere, " AfDB said.

Critics charge that Japanese consumers and retailers use too much plastic, as a mania for elaborate packaging results in nearly everything being wrapped - even single pieces of fruit.

Plastic can persist in the environment for almost a thousand years before it fully disintegrates and keeping this in mind, many organisations and governments are looking for alternatives to tackle this problem.

Besides a problem with plastics, India is also home to some of the most polluted cities in the world.

On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Modi expressed his government's commitment to the sustainable development goals.

Most of this plastic garbage clogging waterways and landfill is single-use items like straws, bags and cutlery.

"People all across the United Kingdom are on the same page: ocean plastic pollution needs tackling and it is urgent that supermarkets take meaningful action to reduce their plastic footprint now".

"If we don't eliminate and significantly reduce plastic packaging and single use plastics this problem won't be fixed". The UN Secretary-General concluded by saying that global unity against plastic pollution is the solution towards a greener and more climate-friendly environment.
