Emotional Anderson Cooper Tears Up While Remembering Anthony Bourdain

"A father, a chef, a correspondent, a poet, a renegade, an global TV icon", CNN's Brian Stelter described late colleague Anthony Bourdain on Reliable Sources, who shocked the world by taking his own life on Friday.

"What I do is not complicated", Bourdain told the New York Times in 2005.

Bourdain's death by suicide shocked viewers around the world. "Money beyond his wildest dreams", she said.

Anthony Bourdain was in a "dark mood" in the days leading up to his suicide, his best friend and traveling companion told the famed chef's mother.

CNN shared in a statement on Friday that Bourdain died by suicide while working on a new episode of the Peabody-winning series in France.

It was a lifestyle that, while undeniably glamorous, took a toll, he suggested in a 2017 New Yorker profile.

"All I can tell you is this: I got off of heroin in the 1980s".

On Sunday, June 10, CNN has confirmed it will air a new episode of "Parts Unknown" set in Berlin.

Before his death, Bourdain was also supporting his girlfriend Asia Argento after she told The New Yorker she had been raped by Harvey Weinstein. Many fans and fellow celebrities remembered him as their idol and mentor.

She said Russia's readmission to such a format is not now feasible. "When will you resign?" asked lawmaker Gottfried Curio.

During their time in Hong Kong, Bourdain dined at and filmed a Parts Unknown segment at the Happy Paradise restaurant.

Since Friday, mourners have gathered to leave flowers and messages at Brasserie Les Halles, the now-shuttered Park Avenue restaurant where Bourdain became the executive chef in 1998 and immortalized the experience in his 2000 bestseller, "Kitchen Confidential".

As for Africa, Bourdain declared the continent, "one of the best arguments for travel I can think of", and lauded its ability to exist as a "functioning multicultural, multilingual, extraordinarily TOLERANT society".

"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain". To meet you and to instantly know you are exactly how I thought you would be.

Closer to home, Bourdain was an early supporter of #MeToo, noting he'd met several women who'd told him terrible stories of abuse.

'Things have been happening, ' Bourdain said. Everybody wanted to be a little bit of Anthony Bourdain.

"The Latino community was very important to him because in the kitchens of NY there are many Latinos", Medina said.

Cooper: "He was a modern day adventurer, and a unique - somebody with a unique voice, and there's not a lot of people like that left in the world, to be honest". But in the same breath he also said that if you haven't been through that grind, you don't know what it is like to be in a kitchen.

And, with that, it's probably safe to say that Obama spoke for all of us.
