Microsoft teases Halo Infinite at E3 2018

At E3 2018, Microsoft officially unveiled Halo Infinite, the next main series game in the Halo franchise that will focus on Master Chief and his story.

Their presser was chock-full of game announcements and trailers, including a new Forza Horizon, new Halo, new Gears, and updates on Crackdown and other titles.

343 created a new engine Halo Infinite because the game was so ambitious that the studio new technology to realise the game's ambition. They did state that a whole new engine has been built for Halo Infinite to run on and the footage we saw was in-engine.

Microsoft released the latest iteration of its Xbox, the Xbox One X, this past September.

E3, short for Electronic Entertainment Expo, officially opens Tuesday, but several large game publishers and hardware makers are holding preshow events. Microsoft's intent to acquire Ninja Theory will help ensure the creative team has the resources and freedom to bring more ambitious games like "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" to fans.

Microsoft and Electronic Arts revealed they are working on their own game streaming services.

The acquisitions and new studio will give Microsoft a deeper slate of games in years to come.

For years, gamers and industry pundits have speculated that each console generation from Microsoft and Sony could be the last, as mobile gaming has surged and Microsoft has increasingly bridged its Windows PC and console gaming initiatives. The Xbox One hasn't exactly been doing so hot, with it lacking the exclusives and exciting upcoming games to stand out beside the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
