Xiaomi Redmi Y2 launched in India; starting price at Rs 9,999

The new handset Redmi Y2 is the rebranded Redmi S2, which was launched by the Chinese company last month in their domestic market.

The Redmi Y2 will go up for sale exclusively on Amazon India, with the 3GB/32GB set to cost ₹9,999.

According to reports, the price of Xiaomi Redmi Y2 in India will be Rs 9,999 for its 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage version, and Rs 11,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage model. A 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor could power it, coupled with 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB storage.

On the optics department, the smartphone packs a 12+5-megapixel Dual camera setup on the rear and a 16-megapixel AI enhanced front shooter for selfies. The Redmi Y2 has dual cameras going for it, but the Note 5 has a Full HD display and a significantly larger battery.

Xiaomi has announced MIUI 10, the latest update to its operating software which is built for a more immersive full screen experience.

Talking about Redmi 6 Pro, the phone is rumored to sport a 5.84-inch FHD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. a dual-rear camera setup and 4,000mAh battery. The beta of MIUI 10 will start rolling out in mid-June while the stable version would arrive in September.

The design of the Redmi Y2 is quite similar to the one from the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 comes in a metallic finish in three colours of gold, dark grey and pink. The base variant of the phone is said to carry 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, while the high-end variant is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB on inbuilt storage. But in doing so, it also sees itself trapped in a heavily congested price segment that is already dominated by another device from Xiaomi.

As part of the launch, the phone maker is also offering Rs 500 instant discount if the device is purchased using an ICICI Bank debit or credit card, and Rs 1,800 instant cashback along with 240GB data for Airtel customers.
