Xherdan Shaqiri teases Liverpool move after refusing to rule out switch

Stoke were relegated to the Championship after finishing 19th in the Premier League last season, leading to manager Paul Lambert's exit.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who is preparing to feature for Nigeria at the upcoming World Cup in Russian Federation, relocates from Portuguese club CD Feirense for a fee of around £6.3m and subsequently pens a five-year contract.

Shaqiri started in Switzerland's 2-0 win over Japan on Friday - their final match before they kick-off their World Cup campaign.

"We're really excited to have got the deal over the line for Etebo", Potters boss Gary Rowett told the club website.

The 22-year-old, who is part of the Nigeria squad in Russian Federation, is Stoke's first signing since they got relegated from the English Premier League.

You may have seen him last week after he came on as a substitute for Nigeria in their friendly against England.

Shaqiri, 26, is set to leave Stoke this summer following their relegation from the Premier League and a number of clubs have been weighing up moves for the Switzerland winger.

"Etebo is a very mobile, energetic midfielder and he's a great age".

Etebo will be a member of the Nigeria squad when the World Cup gets underway in Russian Federation on Thursday.

The Super Eagle joined Feirense from Warri Wolves in 2016 and made 45 league appearances with seven goals to his name. And after impressing in a loan spell with Las Palmas, he has now completed a big money move to Stoke.

"He has played in the top divisions in Portugal and Spain and, of course, he's heading into the World Cup with Nigeria which will be an incredible experience for him".
