City watches, waits as raccoon gets stuck after scaling Minnesota building

A raccoon made its way to the very top of a Minnesota office building early Wednesday as a captivated audience watched in the streets and on social media.

Per WCCO, the raccoon was "first spotted at the Town Square building, huddled in a nook above the sidewalk", but when building workers tried to rescue it from a potential fall, it chose to instead climb to almost the top of the neighbouring 25-story building.

At midnight local time (6am BST) it was reported by radio news reporter Tim Nelson that the raccoon was moving around the building and had moved down to the 17th floor. As of just before 4:30 p.m., it was resting 23 stories up.

"You can do it, Rocket!" they say at one point, a reference many were using to the character of Rocket Raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

Paige Donnelly Law, who is also on the 23rd floor, tweeted that they were told live traps have been put on the roof of the building in hopes the raccoon will make it up there.

The UBS Plaza building is 25 stories tall. "We're working with staff & building owner to find a way to help #MPRraccoon without further endangering it or staff by scaring or making it feel threatened".

The raccoon has gotten Twitter so excited that someone has even started an account on the critter's behalf: "The St. Paul Raccoon".

There's a trap set on the roof, but so far, it's not known if the raccoon has been captured.
