Democrats compete in Virginia's 10th Congressional District primary

SC voters are getting their chance to weigh in as voting began Tuesday for the state's primary elections, with a hotly contested governor's race at the top of the ticket.

It is a different story in western counties, where voters must choose between a Republican and Democratic ballot.

Nevada's Dean Heller is considered the vulnerable Republican senator seeking re-election this year, but he has an easy primary battle Tuesday thanks to President Donald Trump. In the 4th District, vacated by retiring Rep. Ruben Kihuen, two former congressmen - Democrat Steven Horsford and Republican Cresent Hardy - are the favorites. One of Arrington's strategists, Michael Biundo, had been an adviser to Trump's 2016 campaign.

And in the 6th and 9th districts, Democrats will pick their candidates for Congress.

Heller narrowly won his seat in 2012 against Democrat Shelley Berkley, who was hampered by ethics questions.

In the second district, which includes the Hampton Roads area, both Democrats running to challenge incumbent Republican Representative Scott Taylor are women.

Republicans, meanwhile, appear poised to nominate Adam Laxalt, the state's attorney general and the son of former New Mexico Sen.

If you haven't registered to vote, it will be too late to vote in the primary, but you still have until October 15 to be able to vote in the November general election. Former Rep. Cresent Hardy is the Republican frontrunner in a six-person race, while former Rep. Steven Horsford is expect to win the Democratic nomination after incumbent Ruben Kihuen announced he wouldn't seek reelection in response to sexual misconduct allegations.

Corey Stewart ran for the Republican nomination for Virginia governor in 2017 but loss to Ed Gillespie.

There's also a Republican primary Tuesday in the 10th District.

While they have focused their campaigns on health care, gun control and the GOP tax law - along with Comstock's record of largely voting in line with Trump - the Democrats, in interviews with ABC News, differentiated themselves with various ideas about on how to best challenge the president and hold him accountable. But the 10 also heavily favored Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, voting for the Democrat by almost 10 points.

It's an incredibly confusing primary with six Democrats competing for the chance to run against the Republican incumbent. Cramer has already attacked Heitkamp for not doing enough to support Trump's agenda, previewing his strategy this fall.

As always, make sure your voice is heard! They include important presidential-year swing states such as Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania that helped seal Trump's victory two years ago.

As you're voting, remember that it is OK to take a "ballot selfie" in Virginia. If another round is needed, the process continues, eliminating the candidate with the next fewest votes, until one candidate has a majority. Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we have to deal with down the road.
