Resident Evil 2 Remake Revealed, January 2019 Release Date Confirmed

The original Resident Evil 2 game was released on January 21, 1998 for the original PlayStation, GameCube, and a few other platforms.

"Simply put, without PlayStation, there wouldn't be Resident Evil!".

With a new over-the-shoulder, third-person camera mode, the game looks to depart from the classic-yet-clunky controls of the original RE games and towards the more modern entries in the franchise.

Its inclusion of an over-the-shoulder camera instead of its original fixed perspective has drawn the ire of people who wanted a faithful remake, but Resident Evil 2 should still deliver a terrifying experience nonetheless.

Resident Evil is Capcom's flagship game series with more than 83 million in total unit sales since the original entry dropped back in 1996.

The appearance of an original PlayStation is just one way that the Resident Evil 2 remake is paying homage to the original game.

We're due to see the game in detail tomorrow, when E3 proper begins. Will they make it out alive? WithCapcom's proprietary RE Engine powering a new photorealistic style, the characters themselves appear sharper than ever and the grotesque hordes of zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect. The setting is Raccoon City, whose citizens have, as you could probably guess, been turned into ravenous zombies by a disastrous plague.

As you can see, the game features revitalized visuals utilizing Resident Evil 7's engine, while at the same time staying true to the spirit of the original game.

To round things out, a slew of new screenshots for Resident Evil 2 have been revealed.
