Deputy Theresa King, 44, died from her injuries Saturday after being shot in the line of duty in Kansas City on Friday.

Price Chopper will be collecting donations to help support the families of Deputy Patrick Rohrer and Deputy Theresa King who died Friday after an inmate opened fire on them. It's very possible the deputies were attacked with their own guns, Bailiff said.

The inmate was taken in a van to a gated area behind the building, and when he got out of the van, he somehow overpowered and shot the deputies, Bailiff said. Terry Zeigler, the police chief of Kansas City, Kansas, said at a news conference Saturday that as far as he knew, the man was in stable condition.

Earlier Friday Deputy Patrick Rohrer died shortly after the shooting at KU Med from his injuries, authorities said. The two had a combined 20 years of service for the sheriff's department in Wyandotte County. Robert King, who lives nearby, questioned why police didn't use nonlethal force. Both had families; King had two grown children and a young daughter and Rohrer had two young children.

The deputies appeared to follow proper procedure as they transported two prisoners, she said.

A candlelight vigil for the deputies was set to be held at 8pm on Sunday, in front of city hall.

Bailiff said the inmate was being taken across the street from the jail, to the services building, for a court hearing.

West Antarctic Ice Sheet Used To Be Smaller, But Recovered
The rate at which ice losses from Antarctica will increase in response to a warming world remains uncertain. This ice loss rate has also increased from 7 to 33 billion as a result of ice sheet collapse.

Bailiff said investigators do not believe the public is in any danger. They didn't give any details Saturday as to his condition. There is surveillance video of the scene, Blair added.

Authorities have identified the Wyandotte County sheriff's deputy who died Friday after he and another deputy were shot while transporting an inmate.

Evidence markers dot the pavement just outside the Wyandotte County Courthouse in Kansas City, Kan.
