Beckham: Criticism of Sterling is wrong

There is no doubt that Southgate has been blessed with a plethora of English blood coming through the ranks all across top flight - if Ruben Loftus-Cheek seized his World Cup spot with a wonderful loan spell, the national team captain Harry Kane has had the most profound education - written off by many in his early years, the Tottenham Hotspur forward has been consistently sensational.

Some see the fact that he is yet to score in the tournament as a huge negative.

Sterling has found his performances being placed under the microscope arguably more than any other England player by certain publications.

"You're doing great, so stop worrying about scoring and just play your game". Beckham and Sir Geoff Hurst, though, defended Sterling's displays after the quarter-final win against Sweden.

"If we win the World Cup - and I believe there's every chance we can do that now - it won't matter at all whether Sterling has scored".

"As I have got older I have become more conscious of that - it is easy to avoid challenges and avoid putting yourself on the line", he said.

Ronaldo signs for Juventus from Real Madrid
Spanish giants Real Madrid have dropped their interest in French starlet Kylian Mbappe and won't be pursuing him this summer. And that's exactly what Ronaldo , the player and the brand, will bring to the Italian club.

"I think Raheem has been fundamental to the way we have played - his movement, the positions he takes up, his pressing of the ball, his work rate for the team, the winning of free-kicks, the winning of corners, his speed to stretch teams", Southgate told the ITV World Cup podcast.

"The runs he was making, it is a key factor as a front player".

"Because if we don't do that, they will definitely punish us".

England now has to confront a harder test than their previous encounters in the semifinal where they will come up against Croatia who defeated Russian Federation earlier to progress into the next round.

The flak Sterling receives doesn't bother him as much anymore, in his own words, the youngster focussing on his duties instead. He's quick, he's dynamic and hopefully the goals are going to come now in these two last important games'.

Trippier has been regarded as one of the stars of the tournament, with England having progressed through to the semi-finals, where they will face Croatia on Wednesday.
