Trump will get red carpet treatment in UK - and big protests

MorningThe President and the Prime Minister will visit a defence site to witness a demonstration of the UK's cutting edge military capabilities and integrated UK-US military training.

The bulk of the activity will take place in London, where people plan to gather first in Regent's Park outside of the USA ambassador's house on Thursday and again across central London for a series of protests throughout the day on Friday.

The small gathering at a location to be confirmed in London - and at which Mr Trump is not expected to attend - is likely to be easily outnumbered by protesters involved in a series of demonstrations organised for the coming days, including the flying of a 20ft-high Trump inflatable near Parliament.

Tall metal mesh barricades and concrete blocks have been erected around the perimeter of the US Ambassador's swanky central London residence, Winfield House, where the US President will spend Thursday night.

Mr Trump this week described the United Kingdom as a country "in turmoil", alluding to the political drama that saw David Davis and Boris Johnson resign over the prime minister's Brexit plans.

Most of the protests will take place that day in central London, the US officials said, with some occurring the days before and after.

Allan Hogarth, head of policy at Amnesty International U.K., said Trump's visit is a major "opportunity for the show that peaceful protest is an essential component of a free and fair society, not something to be shut down as a political embarrassment".

Security is still a cornerstone of the relationship, as are trade and less tangible things like shared language and the fact that many Americans are proud of their British roots. "They have knives and instead there's blood all over the floors of this hospital", Trump said.

Kim Sei-Young's 31-under score smashes LPGA record
The affable Kim is the 17th different player to win during the 2018 season and is the sixth player from Korea to win. In the final round, Kim will be trying to break the 72-hole record of 27 under that she shares with Sorenstam.

The demonstrators plan to loft a large blimp-like balloon over the skies beside Westminster Palace, depicting a bronzed "Trump Baby" in diapers, clutching a mobile phone.

The menu for the dinner at Blenheim Palace includes Scottish salmon, English Hereford beef filet and vegetables, and strawberries and clotted cream ice cream.

The Jameson in Hammersmith has rebranded itself The Trump Arms for the US President's visit.

While Mr Johnson may now be a backbencher, Mr Trump said he hoped he would still see the former foreign minister - another blow to the fragile position of Mrs May.

Trump is also expected to travel to Scotland, where he owns two golf courses.

Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania, will land at London's Stanstead airport after attending a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels.

Mr Trump will inspect the Guard of Honour with the Queen before being welcomed for tea at Windsor Castle, before journeying on to Scotland for the weekend.
