Donald Trump says Boris Johnson would make 'excellent' prime minister

Trump added that May's "soft" blueprint for the U.K.'s future dealings with the European Union would probably "kill" any future trade deals with the United States.

The president is expected to avoid areas where major demonstrations are planned in protest at his visit.

Trump is in London, where his day will start with a viewing of a military demonstration before he heads to meetings with British Prime Minister Theresa May at Chequers, May's county house.

A large balloon depicting the USA president as a giant infant will be allowed to fly over London during the president's four-day visit to the United Kingdom after the capital's Mayor Sadiq Khan gave his permission. I would actually say that she probably went the opposite way. "It's really kind of irrelevant to what we're trying to do, and doesn't express the opinion of the British people that I've met", he told the BBC's Today programme.

"She didn't agree, she didn't listen to me", he told The Sun.

As the Trumps dined with the Mays, protests in the British capital took place outside Winfield House, the residence of US Ambassador Woody Johnson.

It is not simply the protesters, who are expected to dog Trump throughout his visit, including his weekend in Scotland, but his fraught relationship with political leaders accustomed to harmonious exchanges with US leaders, a tradition of unity that goes back at least to the vital World War II partnership of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.

Rarely has a foreign leader been so mocked on an official visit - London's mayor, Sadiq Khan, a Muslim who has challenged Trump's worldview OK'd the balloon, which is an apt symbol of Trump's tempestuous relationship with Britain, traditionally the United States' closest ally.

After what media described as Trump's "tantrum", he told reporters that the other North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members had "agreed to substantially up their commitment" and everyone was "very happy".

One of the more old-fashioned etiquette rules is to ensure correct use of a cup and saucer when drinking tea, however Vickers said this one is no longer strictly upheld. "They like me a lot in the UK".

He said "Brexit is Brexit" and the British people "voted to break it up, so I imagine that's what they'll do but maybe they're taking a different route - I don't know if that is what they voted for". "We can not roll out the red carpet for a U.S. president that treats human beings this way", the statement noted.

One would require a new law to join a new customs union, and another would demand the EU collect any tariffs set by Britain on UK-bound goods coming in from outside.

ING strategists said the much-awaited Brexit white paper published on Thursday hasn't quite solved the UK's future trading relationship, and markets will be waiting to see if the European Union can work with latest proposals.

The interview posted online as Prime Minister May welcomed President Trump and the first lady at Blenheim Palace for a lavish gala dinner. Yet, now that protesters are planning to fly a great big diapered Baby Trump blimp, he doesn't feel welcome anymore.

Trump will spend the weekend at the former, which he described as a "magical place", before heading to Helsinki, Finland, for a much-anticipated summit on July 16 with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Trumps were also met by protesters, who had earlier gathered outside Winfield House in central London, the home of the U.S. ambassador where the American guests are staying overnight, as well as outside Blenheim Palace.

But the balloon will not be allowed to fly over his Turnberry golf course, Police Scotland have said.
