Alaska’s last two Blockbusters are shutting down, leaving one in US

That revelation comes as a result of Alaska's final pair of Blockbusters announcing a closure which will begin next week. These stores lasted so long, given the long winters and lack of high-speed internet.

The Alaska Blockbusters made national headlines earlier this year when John Oliver bought a number of movie items from Russell Crowe's post-divorce auction, including a leather jockstrap from Cinderella Man and a vest from Les Miserables, and sent them to the stores.

We imagine you're now wondering where the last Blockbuster in the United States is. "We have thought of you as family for the past 28 years", Blockbuster Alaska wrote on its Facebook page on Thursday.

That leaves just one Blockbuster Video, in Bend, Oregon, as the last functioning store in the entire country.

Stores in the Denver area closed back in November 2013.

"You would not believe how much business we got just from that memorabilia alone", he said.

The last two Blockbuster stores in Alaska will close.

Friday's indictments come ahead of Tuesday's scheduled meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The statement notes that they began "spearphishing" volunteers and employees of Clinton's campaign, including its chairman.

In March, a store in North Pole, Alaska, closed down.

In an interview Thursday, Daymude said many customers had called or stopped by to say they'll miss their local Blockbuster. Unfortunately, they just weren't profitable enough for the owners to justify signing a new lease.

The once-supreme rental chain was a staple in American strip malls and shopping centers, encapsulating a labyrinth of at least 7,000 movies in each store.

Then, there are the people who go to Blockbuster but don't even come inside.

At the peak of its popularity in 2004, Blockbuster boasted around 84,300 employees around the world. Now, the lone remaining Blockbuster store is in OR, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

After that, things kept going downhill. On Tuesday, July 17 they will reopen for an inventory sale at noon through July and August. Blockbuster's model, which brought the big-box store mentality to home entertainment, is particularly hard to maintain in that environment.
