Cop fatally shot after suspect attacks him with rock, steals gun

A police officer and a local woman were shot and killed in a quiet residential neighborhood Sunday morning after a 20-year-old man allegedly crashed a auto, attacked the officer, stole his gun, and used it to shoot both victims, according to the Norfolk district attorney's office.

The name of the woman shot to death inside her Weymouth home during a violent few minutes that also cost Weymouth Police Officer Michael C. Chesna his life is expected to be made public Monday as the person allegedly responsible for both deaths heads to court.

Weymouth Officer Michael Chesna, 42, responded to an "erratic driver" call about 7:30 a.m., police said. Chesna fell to the ground, and officials say, Lopes took the officer's gun and shot Chesna multiple times.

Authorities say Lopes then took Chensa's service weapon and blasted him several times in the head and chest before resuming his flight.

Fox News reports that Lopes was fleeing on foot when Chesna drew his gun and ordered Lopes to stop.

Chesna was a veteran of the US Army, which he joined "to open doors to become a police officer", Grimes said.

He leaves behind a wife and two young children.

Weymouth Police Chief Richard Grimes has identified the shooting suspect as Emanuel Lopes, and says he's in custody.

Then the shooting rampage continued as the suspect allegedly killed an elderly woman inside her home, but her identity has not been released, authorities said.

Chesna's body was transported via procession of multiple law enforcement agencies to the state's medical examiner office for evaluation. 'It does happen everywhere'.
