Theresa May pitches for post-Brexit trade deal with Trump

President Donald Trump said the US would "probably not" strike a trade deal with Britain if Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plan went ahead as planned.

London, Jul 12 Donald Trump arrives in Britain today for his first visit as U.S. president, flying into a whirlwind of protests against him and political turmoil over Brexit. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Brexit Secretary David Davis had quit over May's proposal to retain a strong trade relationship with the European Union.

Donald Trump has raised doubts over the UK's handling of the Brexit negotiations suggesting the Prime Minister was not delivering what the people had voted for in the European Union referendum.

"I think it changed the fabric of Europe and, unless you act very quickly, it's never going to be what it was and I don't mean that in a positive way", he said.

Trump is set to largely avoid mass protests planned for his controversial trip, which includes talks with May, tea with Queen Elizabeth II and a private weekend in Scotland.

On Friday (Jul 13), he will join Prime Minister Theresa May at Chequers before meeting the Queen at Windsor Castle, however, his arrival has not been welcomed by all.

"I think he has not been hospitable to a government that is very important".
