Baltimore Orioles very close to Manny Machado trade, according to reports

With the MLB All-Star break upon us, Manny Machado has quite possibly played his last game with the Baltimore Orioles. So with the July 31 trade deadline right around the corner, here are three reasons why a trade for Machado would be flawless for the Phillies at this very moment in the 2018 season to give them a better chance of continuing to be a contender.

Reports have linked Machado with several teams including the New York Yankees.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported on Tuesday that the Orioles are expected to trade Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday (barring any last-minute blockage of the deal). Had that happened, Machado would have potentially appeared as an All-Star representing the Dodgers, leaving the AL a man down and the Orioles without a representative in the game.

Machado said he doesn't have a preference on a destination, though he would like to continue to playing shortstop.

"A month ago he wouldn't have come out of the game", Showalter said. "It's just always a blessing", Machado said.

Trump questions United States intel, not Putin, on Russian Federation 2016 meddling
Earlier Monday, Trump blamed Mueller's investigation into Russia's campaign meddling for hurting relations between the countries. Trump was also under pressure from Britain to press Putin over the nerve agent poisoning of four people in southern England.

These are the usual suspects when it comes to Machado trade talk, but Heyman reports that the Dodgers are now the front-runners. Chris Taylor has been a solid fill-in, with a.786 OPS, 11 home runs, 41 RBI, 21 doubles and an NL-leading eight triples this season.

Machado said he would prefer to stay in Baltimore if he could, but added he knows that's not realistic.

Machado could certainly be traded soon after the All-Star Game. "You all know that", Showalter said. Machado insists he's not thinking about whether Tuesday night might be his last in Orioles attire. "I'm the type of player, once I get in there, I'm locked in". "I'm just trying not to think about it".

But first, Machado gets to play in the All-Star Game. Machado isn't even one of the most valuable players in the league going by any wins above replacement metric you might cite, because every defensive metric baked into those formulas has skipped Machado since he moved from third base to shortstop. "I try not to worry about that kind of stuff".
