As France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final to claim its second-ever World Cup, congratulations and accolades poured in from around the world.

Conor McGregor was a guest of Russian president Validmir Putin at the World Cup final.

'Today was an honor for me Mr. Putin.

'Further proof Conor McGregor is a complete clown. McGregor also shared the picture on his Twitter page.

And Rob Wright, making reference to comedian Sasha Baron Cohen's spoof interviews, added: 'Really hoping that Conor McGregor turns out to be Sasha Baron Cohen playing the long con, because nothing else makes sense anymore'.

However Dhoni failed to force the pace with India managing only 236 in 50 overs. While it didn't concern the English team, Root did find it a bit surprising.

Interestingly, Nurmagomedov was at the World Cup with Putin and McGregor, as well. It remains to be seen if that happens, but in the meantime, McGregor showed Sunday that he has not lost his talent for provoking outrage.

Ahead of kick-off, McGregor, who celebrated his 30th birthday on Saturday, wished Pogba well in the match in a video posted on social media.

In fairness to Trump, and Putin, the Russia World Cup was a huge success and was relatively free of the controversies and problems many predicted might mar the tournament before it began.
