8 injured in knife attack on bus in Germany, suspect arrested

A man apparently armed with a knife attacked passengers on a busy bus in the northern German city of Luebeck Friday before being overpowered and arrested, authorities said, and nine people were injured. He was a 34-year-old German national, Luebeck's chief prosecutor, Ulla Hingst, said, according to the Associated Press.

Investigators found a flammable substance in a backpack aboard the bus, but no explosives.

She said the identity of the suspect, who was being questioned by police, has yet to be confirmed.

"One of the victims had just given up his place to an older woman, when the attacker stabbed him in the chest", Luebecker Nachrichten quoted a witness as saying. "The perpetrator had a kitchen knife".

US general: 'No further direction' on Syria since Trump-Putin summit
She said the USA hopes Putin will have the indicted Russians "come to the United States to prove their innocence or guilt". Some of the harshest criticism of Trump's interactions with Putin have come from fellow Republicans, including Sen.

He is not believed to have been politically radicalised and there were no signs of a terrorist background, said officials.

She added the motive is "still open" and "we are investigating in all directions".

Police spokesman Dierk Duerbook told the Bild newspaper that no one was killed in the attack.

Local daily Luebecker Nachrichten reported, without giving a source, that two people were seriously injured and 12 others received minor injuries in the incident.
