Arrest warrant issued for man suspected of knife attack on German bus

The perpetrator is believed to have been apprehended, but not before 14 people were wounded, at least three of whom are believed to have suffered serious injuries.

"There were no dead", the police and state prosecutor's office said in a statement.

No further details were immediately available.

"The background to the crime is still unclear and the subject of the ongoing investigation".

On Twitter, the police said the attacker was overpowered and taken into police custody.

Police managed to detain the suspected attacker following what was described as "carnage" by witnesses.

Prosecutor Hingst told mass-market daily BILD that the suspected attacker is "a 34-year-old German citizen of Iranian origin", and added: "We have no indication of political radicalisation of any kind".

"The bus was full", the police said, appealing to passengers who fled the scene to contact them.

A police patrol auto close to the horror in the Kucknitz district of Lubeck in northern Germany, was quick to the scene and the 34-year-old suspect was overpowered.
