18 dead in helicopter crash in Russian Federation

A Russian airline helicopter has crashed shortly after take-off killing all 18 people aboard.

"At 10:20 a.m. on August 4, 2018, a Mi-8 helicopter performed a hard landing in Turukhansk district 2 kilometers from the village of Igarka", as reported by an official in Russian Emergency Ministry's department.

The second aircraft landed safely and the accident took place in "normal" weather conditions, according to preliminary findings.

Law enforcers also said the helicopter crashed because of midair collision with a cargo carried by another helicopter.

In November 2017, six people died when a small plane crash-landed in the Khabarovsk region.

The incident occurred when a Russian-made Mi-8 aircraft knocked into the cargo of an adjacent helicopter as both were completing take-off in the Krasnoyarsk region, watchdog Rosaviatsia says.
