He continued to note that the US has no current plans to relax sanctions on North Korea until there is evidence the country is taking steps to denuclearize, saying the Trump administration would continue its campaign of "maximum pressure".

North Korea warned Thursday that there could be no progress in its denuclearization as it accused some senior US officials of trying to strengthen global sanctions on Pyongyang.

"We hoped that these goodwill measures would contribute to breaking down the high barrier of mistrust" between Pyongyang and Washington, the North's Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

"Expecting any result, while insulting the dialogue partner and throwing cold water over our honest efforts for building confidence which can be seen as a precondition for implementing the [North Korean]-U.S. joint statement, is indeed a foolish act that amounts to waiting to see a boiled egg hatch out", the statement read.

A foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement on state-run KCNA that North Korea was still willing to implement a broad agreement made at the landmark June 12 summit in Singapore between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri traveled this week to Iran, where President Hassan Rouhani told him the United States can not be trusted after the Trump administration reneged on a 2015 deal to lift sanctions in return for curbs on Iran's own nuclear program.

The newspaper added that it is "abnormal" to see distrust and animosity going on between the North and the USA even now, saying that it is time to take action toward declaring an end to the war. Last month, Washington warned against loosening sanctions on Pyongyang after Russian Federation and China suggested discussing such a move.

Satellite images from last Friday indicate North Korea has carried out additional activities to dismantle a key missile launch facility, the Washington-based 38 North think-tank said on Tuesday.
