Jurgen Klopp: 'Liverpool are like Rocky Balboa not Ivan Drago'

The Reds topped the outlay charts following the big-money arrivals of Alisson, Fabinho and Naby Keita, with Xherdan Shaqiri the other player signed for less than £35 million.

Klopp used a typically colourful analogy as he discussed the upcoming season ahead of Liverpool's opening game against West Ham, which takes place on Sunday, likening is team to the underdog boxer played by Sylvester Stallone in this year's battle for the title.

"We have to be more consistent, we know that. We know that. We have to be more clinical and more aggressive in the right moments.", the Liverpool boss said. That is likely to play a big part in the early weeks of the season, as players fitness issues provoke tough decisions from managers on who starts, who rests, at least until the global break in September.

"We can improve everything: we can improve our offensive game, we can improve our defensive game".

"But for me it is more hard if you don't have players".

"Ragnar (Klavan) no real chance, Joel (Matip) did parts of training like Joe (Gomez) did, we will see how they are today".

But he's obviously an exciting talent and, with the guys around him, I think he fits nicely into that position in our team". Well, bowling coach Bharat Arun hinted the visitors may not opt for an extra batsman and called it a "conservative move".

"We want to be, it's clear for ages, champions of England". It's like you jump into the water, you dive in and we go for it until we don't have air or oxygen anymore. We went to finals.

And Klopp said: "What I learned is that you have deserved luck and we will work on that". That does not decide anything.

"It is hard to win every game, if we see how Wolves, Fulham or Everton act, they are all ambitious". They were impressive against Chelsea, both sides were.

"We are still Rocky Balboa and not Ivan Drago". So, we cannot buy any more but we can sell not in the English Premier League. "That must be our attitude".

For Jurgen Klopp, it was all about obtaining the right players and having already secured Naby Keita past year, the 1st addition to the squad was Fabinho from Monaco before the end of May, just days after the heartbreak in Kiev.

Liverpool certainly aren't a virtual unknown from the slums of Philadelhpia, but maybe Klopp has a point.
