Idris Elba offers cheeky tweets amid latest James Bond rumors

It's that time of year again, when Twitter goes into a frenzy over speculation British actor Idris Elba will be the next James Bond. Apparently, the article said, the 45-year-old "Luther" star is in the running to play the titular role if the actor now playing Bond, Daniel Craig, retires from the part.

Hours later, the star got even more vaguer firs sharing an image of the rap group Public Enemy followed quickly by one of their lyrics, "Don't Believe The HYPE".

The Luther star has always been thought to be in the running to play 007 after Daniel Craig, and on Sunday he sent the rumour mill into overdrive by sharing a selfie of the top half of his face with the caption: "My name's Elba, Idris Elba".

This time, a report from United Kingdom publication The Daily Star has stirred excitement. Director Antoine Fuqua - the man who directed Denzel Washington in his Oscar-winning role in Training Day - says Bond producer Barbara Broccoli believes the climate is right for a Black man to succeed Daniel Craig as Agent 007. You need a guy with a physically strong presence.

Aretha Franklin said to be gravely ill
The Queen Of Soul was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 and returned to performing in 2013 after undergoing surgery. Her family have asked for "prayers and privacy", the website reports.

Media outlets have been tripping over each other trying to procure comments or corroboration from reps for Elba and Broccoli.

"It would be such an honor", he told CNN in 2014. We have to wear attractive suits, drive nice cars, chase bad guys and date lovely women?

He has starred in blockbusters such as Thor, Pacific Rim and Star Trek, and was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing the title role in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. In 2016, he told Good Morning America: "I think I'm too old for that".
