Pep Guardiola: 'Manchester City will get better and better'

Raheem Sterling cut through Arsenal's defence easily before putting City ahead in the 14th minute, and Bernardo Silva curled in the second in the 64th minute.

Guardiola insists City would be foolish to think they will ease to the title by such a significant margin once again and believes Arsenal will be part of a strong chasing pack over the course of the season. The last two seasons at the London Stadium have been far from good enough with us flirting with relegation on both occasions.

More than anything, City looked - inevitably - more comfortable in their system: Their passing was slicker, their pressing more integrated.

Unai Emery faces a battle to get the best out of Mesut Ozil at Arsenal this season. The 2-0 score line, in truth, doesn't demonstrate City's superiority.

As for Arsenal, it is a fresh start for a squad that finished in sixth last season, its worst finish since the 1994-95 season, two years before Arsene Wenger took over as manager.

Arsenal showed a willingness to play out from the back throughout the game, despite being caught out on numerous occasions.

There were some positive signs. "Today, Manchester City demanded our best performance".

This can prove successful in helping Arsenal stifle Manchester City tomorrow.

Leno was widely expected to become the club's first-choice goalkeeper when he completed his £22.5m move from Bayer Leverkusen, and yet Emery left him on the bench in favour of Cech. That incident made the crowd nervous, and Arsenal's subsequent attempts to play forward were consistently unsuccessful.

Yesterday, he popped up in a number of positions, including attack. But he knows and his agent knows we like him and want him a lot.

"That is going to be one of the most interesting things to watch". Sterling was on the left cutting inside onto his right foot, Riyad Mahrez on the right drifting inside onto his left. For me, it is a frustration to have lost but it is one experience more to continue progressing.

Bernardo Silva emphatically crashed City's second into the top corner in the 64th minute after his team came through some nervy moments early in the second half.

A more aggressive press was in evidence and drew appreciation from the crowd but the tactic of playing out from the back - Cech looking particularly uneasy - played horribly into the hands of a City side who delight in hounding their opponents into mistakes.

"We are happy. It was a fantastic win for us".

"Even the Arsenal crowd cheered when they dropped one in the opposition's half!"
