Transfer: Zidane makes contacts with Manchester United, wants Mourinho's job

Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is interested in taking a Premier League job, Daily Mail reported.

The 46-year-old is now out of work since resigning as manager of Los Blancos in May just five days after winning his third consecutive Champions League trophy.

The 46-year-old also won La Liga with Madrid in 2017, as well as two Club World Cup trophies during his two-and-a-half years in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk man made his Premier League debut for United in a 2-1 victory over Leicester on Friday night and impressed in midfield alongside Paul Pogba and Andreas Pereira.

Jose Mourinho notoriously ends his affiliation with clubs within three years and as he enters his third season managing Manchester United there are serious questions over whether he will remain at Old Trafford beyond this season.

Mourinho is adamant that last season's second-placed finish in the Premier League should be considered as one of his biggest achievements, despite finishing 19 points behind Manchester City.

Old Trafford boss Mourinho has "been at odds with United's hierarchy this summer", says the Metro, after a frustrating pre-season.

The successful candidate will be charged with restructuring United's already sizeable scouting network, building a new philosophy at the club, where players aren't bought at the top of their value.

Mourinho is still under contract at Manchester United and will continue as manager for the foreseeable future.

Fred was one of three new signings through the door at Manchester United this summer, joining from Shakhtar Donetsk in a £52m transfer.

A strained relationship with Jose Mourinho is considered to have edged the Frenchman towards the exits, with Pogba admitting recently that there are issues he can not address in public.
