Man City midfielder De Bruyne out for 3 months with injury

The 27-year-old midfielder - who scored eight goals and provided 16 assists as City romped to the title last season - will not have to undergo surgery on the injury which he suffered in training on Wednesday.

De Bruyne had just returned to training August 6 after helping Belgium to the semifinals of the World Cup in Russian Federation.

"Like the doctor said, it will be two to three months, hopefully he can do as much as possible to get back and help us again", Guardiola told a news conference.

De Bruyne's injury can provide a platform for England's U21 worldwide Phil Foden to flourish, even if the youngster is not the first choice for big games, according to Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier.

"He will be a big miss".

Just one game into the new Premier League season, Pep Guardiola's men have lost one of their most important players for a significant chunk of the campaign. They lost the home game however, and Guardiola was keen to point out the difference in belief between his side and the likes of eventual winners Real Madrid.

Manchester United ended up in second place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last season as Manchester City ran away with the title and won the trophy with a record points tally.

More compelling insight is sure to come from the documentary series as it covers the title win but also crushing defeats to United and Liverpool. They (the football authorities) say "let's go" and we are in the competition.

"I don't know how you can prepare [against that]".

David Silva, who this week announced his worldwide retirement, missed the Arsenal match and the Community Shield victory over Chelsea with a knee injury and could be back to face Huddersfield at the Etihad Stadium. "He chose to rest a little bit more with his wife and his little boy, and play with us".
