Paul Pogba posts cryptic message on Instagram after Manchester United win

The midfielder helped Jose Mourinho's team kick off their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Leicester by scoring an early penalty in Friday's game at Old Trafford, coming at the end of a week during which there has been speculation about the Frenchman's future.

Despite aiming his ire at the United board, Mourinho did have some positive things to say about Paul Pogba, who was captain for the night, scored and put in a man-of-the-match performance after a preseason spanning four days and returning to Carrington on Monday.

The Old Trafford outfit signed Fred, Diogo Dalot, and a backup goalkeeper Lee Grant in the summer.

It comes after a summer during which Pogba's relationship with Mourinho has appeared strained.

He added: "We play against a team that invest more than us".

On top of his transfer troubles, Mourinho had a host of injuries and players lacking match sharpness after the World Cup to contend with. In the second half I had Andreas Pereira and Fred with a yellow card, Paul was fantastic his contribution was awesome but the fuel was disappearing.

He explained that further to Sky Sports, saying: 'A match where I needed six changes not three.

The hosts got a much-needed lift after just two minutes when Daniel Amartey was harshly adjudged by referee Andre Mariner to have handled Alexis Sanchez's shot.

"I was in favour of bringing Toby Alderweireld from Spurs", he said.

"I didn't have any pre-season games".

And afterwards the new world champion vowed to always work hard "for the people that trust me".

While Harry Maguire started for Leicester and Jamie Vardy came off the bench, Mourinho opted against starting Romelu Lukaku and used a number of unusual starters including Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian, Andreas Pereira, and Victor Lindelof. Though the performance wasn't ideal we managed to get the result in the end and we an only hope that this is just a starting point and that United can continue to improve all the way through the season.

'Mentally that pushed me on even more because over the summer it was awesome to see how well they done but then disappointing for myself to be sat at home watching.
